Dominique Moody & Paul von Blum
Presented by Eso Won Books and Folk Art Everywhere
Sunday, February 27
2:00 – 3:30pm
Artist Dominique Moody and author Paul von Blum will discuss the work of contemporary African American artists in Los Angeles, using Moody’s work as a point of departure.
Dominique Moody is featured in the Folk Art Everywhere project, and her work is currently on view at the Lucy Florence Cultural Center (down the street from Eso Won). A former resident of St. Elmo Village—a creative community, exhibition and program space—she is now a collaborator in a grassroots artist-in-residency in Watts. Her work in process, NOMAD (Narrative Odyssey Manifesting Artistic Dreams), is on view at the Watts Towers Arts Center as a part of her LA retrospective. Paul von Blum has written extensively about African American artists in LA, including a book, “Resistance, Dignity and Pride.” He recently wrote an autobiography, “A Life at the Margins: Keeping the Political Vision.” This conversation is happening as part of the Leimert Park Art Walk.
