Metro is inviting the public to spend a Saturday in the park -- Leimert Park -- March 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to enjoy live music, delicious food and fun activities at the Eat, Shop, Play community festival in Leimert Park Village. Not only will it be fun, it will be an opportunity to support local businesses impacted by construction of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project.
At the festival, project-area merchants will display and sell their wares, making it easy for us to help others while helping ourselves to a good time.
Activities will include yoga in the park, a drumming circle, kid’s arts and crafts and more! The event will take place at 43rd Place and Leimert Boulevard, near the site of the historic Vision Theatre.
By hosting this event, Metro is taking a creative approach to mitigating reduced foot traffic in the area, due to the upcoming street closures along Crenshaw Boulevard, between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Vernon Avenue. During the closure, construction crews will perform critical work on the two underground stations at Crenshaw/MLK (mall) and Crenshaw/Vernon (Leimert Park).
While at the fest, attendees can learn about other business assistance initiatives at Metro, such as the Business Solution Center (BSC) http://www.metrobsc.net/ and the Business Interruption Fund (BIF) http://www.metrobsc.net/business_interruption_fund. Representatives will be on hand to respond to questions.
Highlights of the six-hour festival will include participation from local food vendors, such as the famous Dulan’s on Crenshaw (soul food) and free yoga sessions will be hosted by Crenshaw Yoga & Dance. Other fun activities will include drumming, dancing and more.
Attendees will have the opportunity to take the pledge to “Eat, Shop, Play Crenshaw” to win cash prizes up, to $1,000! The first drawing will take place in April. Details are available at www.metro.net/eatshopplay.
