Decking for future Crenshaw/Expo Station completed and Crenshaw Boulevard is open in both directions

Traffic on Crenshaw and Exposition boulevards returned to normal this past weekend after Metro on Saturday completed the decking operation for the future Crenshaw/Expo underground station for the Crenshaw/LAX Line light rail project.

Two lanes of traffic are open in both directions on Crenshaw and on Rodeo Road, although no parking is allowed on the east or west side of Crenshaw Boulevard between Rodeo Place and Exposition Boulevard.

Crenshaw/Expo is the first of three underground stations for the Crenshaw/LAX Line. Excavation and decking for the other two underground stations, Crenshaw/Martin Luther King, Jr. and Crenshaw/Vernon, will begin in a couple of months.

Work will continue underground on the Crenshaw/Expo Station. The station must be fully excavated and the tunnel boring machine lowered into the ground that will dig the tunnels for the train tracks that will run from Crenshaw/Expo to just south of the Crenshaw/Vernon Station. So far, the excavation has reached 12 feet below street level and the plan is to go to 80 feet. All of this work will be done beneath the street so motorists, residents and the general public will be less impacted.

Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) will occasionally need to close lanes adjacent to the curb to finish relocating utilities and finalize curb improvements. When this occurs, Metro will let the public know in advance.
