The California African American Museum (CAAM) kicks off its annual celebration of Black Music Month in partnership with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Composers (ASCAP) for Target Sundays at CAAM with “Music Madness.” On Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., CAAM’s Courtyard will be the venue for this upcoming musical celebration, headlined by the dynamic and critically acclaimed RCA Records artist Mali Music. Other performers include Maad Moiselle, BJ The Chicago Kid, Peggie Blu, and Erroll Bonnick. Serving as co-hosts of the event will be actor and philanthropist, Sheryl Lee Ralph and actor Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter. In addition, the event will include a special and moving tribute for Father’s Day. This event is free and open to the public.
Mali Music will sing his Billboard hit single, Beautiful from his upcoming, highly anticipated album, Mali is… set for release June 17, 2014. “Beautiful” is currently at the number 10 spot on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart. He will also offer snippets of songs that appear on his album. Mali Music wowed the gospel world in 2010 with his hit single Yahweh, from the debut album 2econd Coming.
Also performing will be longtime singer and songwriter Maad Moiselle, who recently released her debut EP Indigo, which features artists such as ASAP Ferg. Vocalist BJ The Chicago Kid, who will also take the stage, has collaborated with well-known artists such as R. Kelly, Kendrick Lamar and gospel duo Mary Mary. His mixtape Pineapple Now & Laters made Complex’s Top 50 Albums of 2012 list. Actress, singer and vocal coach Peggie Blu, best known as the American Idol - Vocal Coach from Hell, began singing in 1973 and recently won the Malibu Music Award – Vocal Coach of the Year in 2013. Reggae artist Erroll Bonnick will bring his smooth Rasta rebel style of music to the CAAM stage and treat the audience to Caribbean style musical feat.
