Leimert Park has been chosen as one of four locations the National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will visit on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Please join us at 7:15AM in the park as we gather to represent the Crenshaw/Leimert community and rally to welcome Delta Sigma Theta.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1913 by 22 dynamic students at Howard University, will soon celebrate 100 years of sisterhood, scholarship and service. We are pleased to kick-off our centennial anniversary celebrations here in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 15, 2012. The day commences at 7AM with our National President, Cynthia M.A. Butler-McIntyre, traveling throughout Los Angeles County greeting hundreds of sorors, youth, public officials, and community members. The event, our Pre-Centennial Torch Tour, will include four stops around the county selected to recognize and highlight the historical and cultural significance of the location and its residents. We are thrilled Leimert Park has been chosen as one of the four Torch Stops!
Please join us in Leimert Park at 7:15AM as we paint the park RED, figuratively of course, and welcome our National President and Centennial Torch. The event will last no more than an hour and will include speakers, entertainment, and light refreshments. We are pleased to have the support of Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson, Jr. and that of other public officials who will be joining us for this event. Crenshaw/Leimert businesses, residents, and friends are encouraged to attend. Come one, come all. You don’t want to miss it.
That afternoon, we are pleased to host a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) event for students, ages 9‐17, at the California Science Center and University of Southern California (USC). The program includes a tour of the Endeavor Space Shuttle, presenters and speakers that work in STEM careers, and an interactive STEM Challenge.
