The Academic Preparation Squad©
Needs your Help!
The Academic Preparation Squad prepares low income elementary and middle school students to eventually succeed in advanced mathematics by increasing positive attitudes and active engagement in learning math.
The APS strategy centers on the use of an innovative teaching tool called 'Math Maze,' a creative game for elementary and middle school students that teaches them math skills in a fun and enjoyable environment. R.C Glymph developed Math Maze on the basis of his extensive experience in the classroom. The Academic Prep Squad conducts workshops and trainings for school, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and students. These events teach participants how to use Math Maze to improve student attitudes and increase engagement and proficiency in mathematics. In addition, APS produces and promotes Math Maze game tournaments to help motivate students to practice.
Visions Made Viable is delighted to serve the Academic Prep Squad through long term fiscal sponsorship, administrative support and consulting with the goal of reaching many thousands of low income students with a love for mathematics.

Math Maze is a unique new card game designed to make learning math fun.
The first step in mastering math is to have a positive attitude.
The Math Maze Game System is the latest in mathematics intervention and remediation tools for all learners. It was developed using sociology, psychology, and learning theories. Math Maze is a card game that utilizes passive learning to teach and reinforce foundation mathematics skills. There are two levels of game play, the Starter game system and a Mastery game system. The starter version helps learners master the basic mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers. The Mastery game system allows learners to master positive, negative integers and fractions. This fast moving fun packed game provides a supportive platform for system- wide academic and social skills development. Math maze provides a standards, based activity that addresses all learning modalities and gives learners opportunities for multiple exposures to SUCCESSFUL skills and strategies practice. With regular use learners will develop fluency in basic computational and procedural skills an understanding of mathematical concepts, and the ability to use mathematical reasoning to solve mathematical problems, including recognizing routine problems readily and find ways to reach a solution or goal when no routine path is apparent. Thought out the game play learners estimate, calculate and use, problem solving strategies involving the use of combinations of mathematical operations.
Math maze was created by Mr. R.C. Glymph a mathematics and science teacher who wanted to create a tool that could be used systemically, or system wide to remove resistance and eliminate math anxiety.
