USHER IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND CELEBRATE YOUR FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND CULTURE DURING TARGET SUNDAYS AT CAAM

Target Sundays at the California African American Museum (CAAM) will host its annual Kwanzaa and Holiday festivities Celebrating Family, Community and Culture, Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 1-5p.m. Co-hosted by Babe Evans and Jeffrey Anderson Gunter, the official Kwanzaa kick off heralds the observance of the holiday season, with added highlights of Christmas and Hanukkah all brought together by live performances.
This lively, annual event will include performances by The L.A. Third Children’s Choir, which consists of 18 talented boys and girls under the leadership of gospel singer Windy Barnes Farrell. Since their debut performance at LA Third in 2011, the choir has opened for the Street Corner Renaissance at the Grand Annex.
Also performing will be the NAACP’s Act So Competition Gold Winner, vocalist Darynn Dean and her brother Jamael Dean on keyboards. A dynamic 15-year-old Jazz singer, Ms. Dean is a sophomore at Mira Costa High School; and Jamael, 14-years-old, attends LA High School for the Arts and recently received the Los Angeles Jazz Society 2012 Shelly Manne New Talent Award. Also highlighted on the program will be harpist Phillip King and singer Michael Speaks.
Headlining the program will be the notorious singer, Peggi Blu, known by “American Idol” contestants as “the vocal coach from Hell,” after appearing on seasons 10 and 11. With the voice of an angel, Blu was personally invited by President Clinton to sing at his first Inauguration. Blue has worked with countless R&B icons such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross.
At approximately 2 p.m., performer Babe Evans will present a special candle lighting ceremony and discuss the principles of Kwanzaa. Starting at noon, local artist and educator Theresa Tolliver will host an art workshop for all ages. Supplies are provided by CAAM.
Like all events and programs at CAAM, this event is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.caamuseum.org and RSVP at (213) 744-2024. CAAM galleries open at 11am on Sundays and the live program for Target Sundays at CAAM begin at 1pm. CAAM is located at 600 State Drive, Exposition Park, Los Angeles.
