UPDATE: THIS WEEKEND’S CLOSURE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) will begin installing steel beams and locating utilities on Crenshaw Boulevard at Vernon Avenue for the next four consecutive weekends, beginning Friday, Aug. 28. A full street closure will be implemented on Crenshaw Boulevard between 48th Street and 43rd Street and on Vernon Avenue between Crenshaw Boulevard and Leimert Avenue during these weekends.
Work has been scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday through Monday on the following weekends Aug. 28, Sept. 4, Sept. 11, Sept. 18 and Sept. 25. The closures may include the Labor Day weekend and the possibility of two additional weekend closures in October.
DETOURS
Northbound:
If traveling north on Crenshaw Boulevard turn east at 48th Street, turn north at Western Avenue, turn west at Martin Luther King Jr., and turn north at Crenshaw Boulevard.
Southbound:
If traveling south on Crenshaw Boulevard turn east at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, turn south at Western Avenue, turn west at 48th Street, turn south on Crenshaw Boulevard.
What to expect:
Access to emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Southbound traffic on Crenshaw Boulevard will be detoured at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, however, local access will be maintained on Crenshaw Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to 43rd Street and Homeland Drive and from 48th Street to Slauson Avenue.
A parking lot is available at former Chris Burger and Crenshaw Boulevard and 48th Street. Pedestrians will be detoured through an area outside the construction zone. Leimert Boulevard will remain open to traffic.
The 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX Line is a $2.058 billion light-rail line that will connect the Green Line and the Expo Line. It will have eight new stations to serve the Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX communities. It is expected to open in 2019.
