Hi Everybody!

I wanted to share with you my latest venture in Real Estate--The Hopeful Home Buyer's Tour! I have pictures to share--see below.

The purpose of this program is to educate home buyers about the importance of creating a fool-proof strategy to purchase their first home, and of course to introduce them to the glorious value here in the Crenshaw Community.

The workshop is specifically designed for aspiring buyers that think they are not ready to buy, because of credit or lack of down payment (assistance is available, folks!).  I urge participants to let the loan officer and the Realtor provide an educated decision about readiness.

I started the first tour as a focus group, consisting of four of my friends who are single, employed full time, have good credit and savings, and who are still renting.  They all volunteered to take my tour as a favor so I could have content for my new upcoming website, but instead, they all left with a sense of hope and felt confident that they could actually qualify to buy a home!

With everyone seated at my dining room table, we reviewed my signature "Buyer's TO DO List" for the first hour, which details the purchase process from A to Z.
Then, we had a question and answer period, followed by a homemade lunch and then....
we boarded the van for the home tour.

We stopped off at the Bedford Parc condos first and then saw 3 homes in Leimert Park and Baldwin Hills.  Along the way I pointed out where the new Expo line would be, the remodeled Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall, and the new Post and Beam restaurant--just to name a few attractions!

My friends were all surprised and impressed with the beautiful homes, tree-lined streets,  and affordable prices.

Ultimately, for me, this tour goes beyond the scope of Real Estate or being an agent. It truly encompasses my goal to form a flourishing community and to instill hope for those who WANT to buy, but think they can't.  If YOU chose to take the journey, know that it will take lots of work and you're going to learn a lot about yourself in the process.  Nothing's easy, but you can do it!

A quote from a participant:

"
I am one of the lucky volunteers that participated in Heathers' Tour. To be clear, I initially agreed to participate thinking I would just offer support and some feedback, but ...to my surprise, the tour and round table discussion Heather leads is interactive and engaging! Instead of just leaving with a belly full of food (the home made lunch is AWEsome!), I also walked away with a plethora of knowledge that no other RE Agent has ever provided or offered for that matter. If you are anything like me, tired of rising rent prices, making a landlord rich and working hard for your dollars, then this course is for you!

{Heather's signature} "Buyers TO DO List" is filled with countless details you need to know about the entire process. If you have questions about credit assessments, how to find a lender, what happens in escrow---to "when will I get my keys?", then this course is for YOU!

When the course and tour was over, I literally felt the dream of home ownership as totally feasible, and with Heather's caring touch and business savvy RE smarts, you too will experience the hopefulness of owning a home turning to a reality.
I repeat, sign up today!
"

Badge based gamification: is this just the thing that education needs?

Iridescent

Before these trends get too overblown, I’d like to dissect and compare two terms that are on their way to becoming the next big thing in education: gamification and badges.Gamification is a very broad term, that basically involves applying components of games to things that are not games, to make mo
