Credit for the website's artwork

SAM PACE created the amazing poster that is the wallpaper at the top of the site. Look closely and you can see that the street sign reads 43rd and Degnan, the heart of Leimert Park.


The artwork was commissioned by Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transporation Authority - Metro - as part of a series of works representing L.A. neighborhoods. In 2004 the selected works that imagined Chinatown, Echo Park and Venice were displayed throughout the city. You can still buy them at metro.net.

According to metro.net, Pace is an artist, graphic designer and illustrator. He has exhibited in many galleries and community centers throughout Los Angeles including the Watts Tower Art Center. His commissions include poster illustrations for events such as the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival and the Playboy Jazz Festival. He is currently working on a television documentary covering Los Angeles’ African American Jazz heritage.

 “I wanted to capture this unique area of Los Angeles…it’s a Mecca for African American culture, and I feel that it’s time to share it with the rest the world. This project is one way that I can help accomplish this goal,” Pace was quoted as saying on metro.net.

I can't find anything current about him or where he's showing. If anybody knows, I'd love to see more of his work.

I just tried to buy more posters to give away at the weekend's event and the metro store has closed for now
