Rodeo Ralphs makes way for Target, Ross and more

Soon the corner of Crenshaw and Rodeo will be home to a Target, Ross, Ralphs, maybe even a Chuck E. Cheese.

The Rite-Aid was shuttered last month and the Cameo Cleaners is moving across the street. All blocks from the planned Expo Line, West Angeles and Earlez Grill.

CurbedLA reported the the locally owned Charles Company told City Council construction would start by November - 2010 - so they are a little behind. But I've got hope and things are moving.

The city is providing a $22.674 million HUD loan, and $6.5 million in CRA funds, roughly 30 percent of the whole $93 million
budget.

This is great news! I'm excited to see more pedestrian friendly development in this area. This is exactly what is needed to encourage foot traffic in the neighborhood after first getting rid of that absolute ocean of surface parking along the boulevard and having the buildings up close to the sidewalk on the short walk from the Expo Line station. This is likely only a precursor of more to come with the likihood of more transit oriented developments and the now real Crenshaw light rail subway coming up and spanning south down the boulevard make the area seem more cohesive at least to Leimert Park.
