CORAZON DEL PUEBLO PRESENTS:
ONE LOVE - Views of Past, Present & Future:
Black & Latino solidarity.Envisioning unity through art and word.
Exhibit Dates: February 11th - 28th 2010.
Opening Reception: February 11th
"It’s not about unity for unity’s sake... We have common issues of poverty,
failing educational systems, negative police relations, gangs, domestic
abuse and violence, disproportionate health issues, and
disproportionate rates in prisons. We cannot move forward in these
areas unless we forge important strategic aims and actions mutually
beneficial to both communities.
It must be a principled and purposeful unity, not a makeshift or superficial one."
-From the weblog of Luis J. Rodriguez
We
want to ask the question: Throughout history and presently, how have
our communities represented unity and solidarity through visual arts
and how can we use these images and works of art to move forward and
abolish these system of oppression that affect both our communities
directly. This is the fundamental idea for this art exhibition and wish
to look at the experiences of both communities and promote ideas of how
we can find new was to continue to build toward a more united
communities.
