Trader Joe's Wants to Know if We Want a Store in Our Neighborhood
Sylvia Lacy from Herb Wesson's office contacted my neighbor, Norman Gilmore to let him know that Trader Joe's has expressed interest in putting in a store at Crenshaw & Rodeo. (Ralph's will be leaving that location when redevelopment starts, and isn't planning to come back.)
Norman is the Secretary on United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (UNNC,) maintains the Jefferson Park United website, and is handy with spreading the word about things, which is why he was contacted.
Councilman Wesson's office is encouraging the community to express their support so Trader Joe's will know we're interested in them coming to our neighborhood. Norman has put together a petition you can sign if you want to tell Trader Joe's you support a store in our neighborhood.
The Benefits of Getting a Trader Joe's at Crenshaw & Rodeo
Ralphs has already announced it won't be coming back after the Crenshaw & Rodeo location gets redeveloped. And Albertsons just closed. So together with our new Fresh N' Easy a Trader Joe's would help make up for the stores we're losing, and make sure we still have a number of convenient choices for grocery shopping. I often shop at the Trader Joe's in Culver City because they have some of the best prices on staples like eggs and milk (plus they have those dried cherry "raisins" that I love!)
CLICK HERE to read and sign the petition
Just scroll down the page, fill in your info, click submit, and then be sure to CLICK ON THE CONFIRMATION LINK IN THE EMAIL YOU WILL RECEIVE so your signature will be considered valid.
Or you can also write a letter to Herb Wesson's office directly in support of the new store, and they will pass it on.
And please spread the word to anyone who might want to express their support. It's easy to do - you can just send them a link to this post, or a link directly to the petition page.

Comment by Michael Grodsky on September 21, 2012 at 9:00pm I was at Alberton's tonight--it was open. Maybe you mean they plan to close? That would be so cool for a TJ's to be at Rodeo/Crenshaw!
Comment by Nina Schneider on September 21, 2012 at 7:35pm Yes! I don't think they understand the opportunity they are missing if they don't open a store in the neighborhood. I'm getting tired of driving to Culver City to buy coffee, olives, wine, and toilet paper.
Comment by Emma Hipolito on September 21, 2012 at 10:15am I shop at the Trader Joe's in Culver City at least once per week. If Trader Joes was serious, they would ask customers in the Culver City and Westchester stores for their zip codes. This would be evidence of how many of us spend money there.
Comment by Chef Marlene Myrie on September 21, 2012 at 9:35am Adding Trader Joe's to our district will be quite an accomplishment, I am looking forward - love that store!
Comment by Shelley Wenk on September 21, 2012 at 8:05am Us, too, Eugene! Here's the direct link if you haven't yet signed the petition:
