John Daniels, he introduced a new era into the social and cultural life of Los Angeles. When John Daniels opened Maverick's Flat in January 1966, it was the hottest club in Los Angeles and though it was in the heart of the Black community on Crenshaw Boulevard it attracted people from all over, "The Flats" was a new kind of club that thoroughly absorbed the psychedelic and Playboy Club themes that were prevalent on the Sunset Strip. The Maverick's Flat debut and popularity coincided with the sunset era of the Central Avenue Jazz scene.
