Hassan Khan - From Chicago, to Los Angeles and Back

I had the priviledge of meeting Hassan in the mid 80's when I lived in Hollywood, California and as fate has it, our paths crossed again.

He now lives in Chicago and has been there since the late 80's, but Hassan's history goes back to the mid 60's when this master bass player, at the time in his teens, was playing with "The First Family of Soul" The Five Stairsteps, best known for their 70's song O-o-h Child.

In the early 70's Hassan was playing with another legendary family, the gospel, soul and R&B singing group, The Staple Singers.

He was married for some years to the internationally known singer, Chaka Khan, during which time he was instrumental in developing her into the dynamic vocalist that she is today.

Throughout his career he has worked with many other notable and legendary performing artists such as Grover Washington, Jr., Eddie Kendricks, Otis Clay, Buddy Guy, Huey Lewis, Phil Guy, Junior Wells, Eddie Clearwater, Baby Huey and the Babysitters, and the legendary Buddy Miles, to name a few.

Hassan Khan has appeared in concert at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, performed at the 1986 Los Angeles Summer Festival, the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, McCormick Place in Chicago, the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, the Apollo Theater in New York, the Howard Theater in Washington D.C., the University of Illinois Pavilion in Chicago, the Amphitheatre in Chicago.

In the 80's he played with Buddy Scott and the Rib Tips, Bobby Jonez and the 24 Carat Gold Band, Bobby Slim James in the Variety Show Band, Billy Branch and the Suns of the Blues and Gloria Thompson Rogers a Blues artist.

In the late 80's to early 90's Hassan was the band leader for Phil Guy and his blues band "The Chicago Machine" until Phil's passing in 2008.

Now the band is called Chicago Legends and Hassan also stays busy with his Jazz band Positive Vibrations Jazz Ensemble, which was started in 2005.

Hassan will share with us his accomplishments and future projects on our BlogTalkRadio show.

Tune in for this exciting show with host Tania-Maria Xavier. April 23, 2009 - 8pm Pacific/10pm Central/11pm Eastern
