Twin Sisters Tragically Killed On Leimert Blvd - Eyewitness account by resident

Around 2:50 am this morning, two women were struck and killed by a car on Leimert Blvd. Before the collision, one woman was ranting loud in-coherently walking westbound on Leimert Blvd towards 11th avenue. She was in the street walking when an on coming car approached her; she stood in the path of the car with her arms in the air, the car stopped and drove in reverse to prevent hitting her. As the car was going in reverse, another woman from across the street approached her and told her "Come Inside! Stop it you're gonna get yourself hurt!" She then went to the in-coherent individual and a tussle proceeded as she tried to get her from out of harms way when another vehicle hit both women killing them instantly. After the accident, many residents came from their apartments to try and help, some stood next to the bodies to direct traffic and to prevent other on coming cars from running over the bodies; while others called 911.

This is a very disturbing, sad and tragic event to have occurred.  I send condolences to the families of these two women who were tragically killed.

****Update- I spoke to a couple of my neighbors and I this is what was told to me:

1) It was a truck that struck them both (if you look closely you can see it in the upper left hand corner). A neighbor told me that the truck struck them and never stopped, it kept going but came back moments later which is why it is one the opposite side of the street. It's unknown if the driver was arrested or if he was under the influence.

Which also explained why there were no skid or tire marks in the road, the driver of the truck never had time to brake.

2) Another neighbor claimed that the sister under the influence wanted to kill herself and that in the middle of the two of them tussling the other sister was trying to free herself; unfortunately when the truck was approaching them the sister under the influence, grabbed her sister and threw her in the path of the truck killing her as well.

Which also explained how their bodies were positioned on the concrete after impact.

Warning Graphic - DeAndre Small, a neighbor who ran outside to prevent other cars from driving over the bodies described up close how one sister had injuries of a strong impact, her body was twisted and bulky. The other sister who was trying to get out of harms way died from a head injury; she bled massively from her skull which was slightly exposed; she was laying in a fetal position.

@Vee My mother & I have been praying for your family since this horrible tragedy occured. You are absolutely right, they were not fighting. All one sister was trying to do was bring her twin back into the house. They both were killed by a reckless, careless driver.

Vee the twin sisters were my two wonderful best friends. They grew up with me since the 1990's and also the twin sisters went to middle school and high school. Tamaya & Tanisha were very sweet plus we all went to our high school prom night together. We all graduated from. Audubon middle school in 1995 and graduated from Crenshaw high school in 1999. We were all very close friends and lived right next door to me.

Thank you Enhager for creating a site where the people in this community can communicate and keep each other informed. There's so many different things being said about what happened that tragic night and putting up this post was not only for me to inform the public of what I witnessed but it was somewhat of a mental release for me. It's hard to sleep because I can still remember their voices, the sound of truck hitting them and I can still see their bodies laying in the middle of the street in my mind. Every time I look out the window or walk to my car it's a constant reminder of that night. Their family is having a vigil on the island, I just came from there and paid my respects.
