The California African American Museum (CAAM) will screen “Mary Lou Williams: The Lady who Swings the Band,” a feature documentary that discusses the life and art of the renowned jazz musician. From child prodigy to pianist, composer, and arranger, Mary Lou Williams’ story is that of a great 20th century artist, who, “Fought to create in a world that could not see past her race or gender,” said Director Carol Bash. This is a free event. CAAM is located at 600 State Drive, Exposition Park, Los Angeles, CA 90037. Parking is $10 at 39th and Figueroa. You are encouraged to RSVP at 213-744-2024.
