The Institute of Musical Arts is proud to continue our storytelling concert series, with a very special storytelling concert on Saturday, January 24, 2015. We call it "Dueling for Dollars". Two long-time friends discover that they will be competing for the same prize money in an upcoming storytelling competition. Each believes that winning is a sure thing and shows off by telling powerful stories. But can the friendship survive this duel between two master storytellers? "Have-mouth-will-run-it" Michael D. McCarty and Griot Queen Ellaraino, two of L.A.'s most celebrated storytellers, will answer that question in a "rockum, sockum" confrontation on our stage. Ellaraino - Noted actress, educator, historian and writer, Ellaraino is well known for her extensive repertoire as well as her costumes, as she enthralls audiences with tales of yesterday and today. Her stories incorporate 15th Century African tales and legends, historical material from the Old West of the mid-1800s, and diverse cultures from the Four Corners of the World. Michael D. McCarty - Michael D. McCarty is a multi-cultural storyteller of African, African-American and International Folk tales, Historical tales, Stories of Science, Spiritual stories; and stories of the brilliant and absolutely stupid things he has done in his life. His stories inform, educate, inspire and amuse, in a style that is energetic and enthusiastic. He has delighted audiences in the US and in more than a dozen countries with stories that are a testament to the unity and diversity of the human spirit. You can buy tickets to the show online: https://duelingfordollars.eventbrite.com , or by visiting our website: http://www.imalosangeles.com/ . You may also pay by cash, check or credit card, at the IMA office, while supplies last. As is our custom at the Institute of Musical Arts, a catered reception will follow the performance. We really hate the thought of disappointing anyone, so please call us at least TWO HOURS BEFORE the performance to verify ticket availability if you do not purchase your ticket in advance. For additional information call: (323) 300-6578.
